The story is advanced primarily through written **messages** attributed to characters. The main ongoing series are:

  * **[[Iris]]**: Instant messaging conversations, which happen in real time on [[terminals]].
  * **[[Slate messages|Slate]]**: Very short-form messages, broadcast for 24 hours at a time on [[agent_systems#AS32]].
  * **[[AS27]]**: Organization announcements, broadcast for 24 hours at a time on a dedicated phone number.
