The story is advanced primarily through written messages attributed to characters. The main ongoing series are:

• XORFS: Email-like exchanges, obtained by dialing the next number in sequence on AS32.
• Iris: Instant messaging conversations, which happen in real time on terminals.
• Slate: Very short-form messages, broadcast for 24 hours at a time on AS32.
• AS27: Organization announcements, broadcast for 24 hours at a time on a dedicated phone number.
